Wheels Are Turning

Great news! This Friday, I will be meeting with a representative from American Cancer Society! A close family friend set it up, and I am so grateful. We will be discussing a new fundraising opportunity called 'Cut It for Cancer.'  More details to come :) Happy New Year!

The Perks of Being "Bald"

Sorry I haven't posted for a couple days, school has been hectic. You know what they say: "It's the most stressful time of the year!" Finals have sadly come, and our grades are all in danger. On the upside, I don't have to worry about my hair. Ever since the change of hairstyle, my mornings have been a breeze! I can get up ten minutes later and even have time to take a shower. Another plus side of short hair is no frizz from the rain. Woohoo! However, beanies have become an absolute obsession. Whenever, wherever I see them, I want them! They are not only for making my head look cute, but for warmth. I was not prepared to lose the heat that came along with my hair.

If I had to choose, my favorite part of having a shaven head would definitely be the friendly head rubs. People constantly want to touch my hair and I love it! Even some friendly teachers I know can't get enough of my lack of hair (cough cough Ms. Vaughn). So, if you ever see me, feel free to ask if you can touch my soft head :)

Snip, Snip, Shave

Does anyone else feel that breeze, or is it just me?
Getting my head shaved felt so good! It was like getting a massage and a head scratch at the same time. Now my hair is super soft (especially the back), and it will sure make showering easier. I wanted to thank everyone who posted on Instagram to help spread the news, and I can't believe The Press Enterprise covered the story. Also, special thanks to Lindsey-- the hairdresser at Adora Bella --for cutting and shaving my hair for FREE. Shaving my head was such a rewarding decision, and when I see how many people are getting excited about what I am doing, I feel so blessed! I honestly could not have done this without the loving support of my family and friends. Their kind and encouraging words made this process a million times easier! #shavingstereotypes

Rapunzel, Rapunzel

It's crazy to think that six 20 inch braids came from my little head! I can't wait to send these to Locks of Love!

Before & After

Special thanks to the wonderful Milka Soko who took these amazing photos for The Press Enterprise!

'Twas the Night Before...

I have less than 24 hours before I’m bald, and I can’t wait! People have been hyping me up these past few days and it just adds to the suspense. Tomorrow at 8:30 am, I have an appointment at Adora Bella Salon where Lindsey will wash/dry my hair and then put it into several ponies. After she cuts off the ponies, she will shave my head. It may sound weird, but you know the night before Christmas when you can’t fall asleep because you are too excited for what is to come? Well that’s how I feel tonight! To let you in on a little secret, I was not as certain about my decision as I am now. When I first put shaving my head under consideration, I was scared. How will it look? Will it grow out before senior year? What if I get strange looks from people? But, I realized that what all these worries have in common is that they all have to do with my selfish needs. You should not donate your hair to get attention for yourself but rather to bring light on a serious issue. When I discovered that this was the true reason why I wanted to shave my head, I was no longer afraid. Pictures coming soon :)

The Reason Behind the Madness

When I tell people what I am doing, their first question tends to be "What inspired you to do so?" Well I'll tell you. Recently, movies, TV shows, and books are discussing the subject of cancer; I used to think I couldn't do anything to help. "I don't have enough money to make a difference," I thought. But then I realized something wonderful. People are always complimenting me on my long, thick hair, so I decided that shaving my head is the perfect option. I believe that people are given gifts in life -whether it be talent, kindness, athleticism or what have you-- not to keep for themselves, but to share with the world. I don’t need my hair- it’ll grow back easily! The ones who really need it are the young boys and girls who are suffering with cancer or any other disease that causes hair loss.
